Vienna Secession

The Wiener Secession was founded in 1897 by young artists, architects and designers, including Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann, Josef Olbrich, Gustav Klimt and Koloman Moser.

Their new ideals and ideas were manifested not only in the movement's name, Die Secession, but most prominently in the building Olbrich designed for the group. To this day Die Secession - the building - houses art exhibitions, even though the Vienna Secession ended as a movement in 1939.

Together with the Wiener Werkstätte, the Vienna Secession was one of the main movements of the Vienna arts and crafts style, the Jugendstil.
