|
Josef Hoffmann was born in 1870 in today's Czech Republic - back then it was part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. Which is why he could go to Vienna to study with architect Otto Wagner.
Josef Hoffmann was a founding member of the Vienna Secession (1897) and the Wiener Werkstätte (1903).
Besides Hoffmann's tremendous influence on Jugendstil with his furniture designs, he completed the Sanatorium in Purkersdorf, Niederösterreich, (1903-05, 1927) and the Palais Stoclet (1905-11) in Bruxelles - his most famous buildings.
