Antique Teddy Bears |

The original 'Teddy Bear' was made by the Ideal Novelty and Toy Corporation, which at the time was Morris Michtom and his wife Rose.
After the famous refusal of President Roosevelt to shoot the bear, Rose made two stuffed bears, put them in the shop window in NYC and called them, with permission of the President, Teddy Bears.
Stuffed bears made by Margarete Steiff, were first introduced as Teddy Bears at the 1903 Leipzig Fair.
So in a way they existed first in Germany, but the name is from New York City.
